Nominations for the 2025 UOSU By-Election will open on September 3, 2025! By-elections are held to fill vacancies on the UOSU Board of Directors and Executive Committee, and student representatives on the uOttawa Board of Governors and Senate.

Can I run for more than one position?
No, you may only run for one position per election, including both uOttawa and UOSU seats.
Can I be nominated by someone who has already nominated someone else?
Yes, any Member may nominate as many people as they like for as many positions as they like. They just need to be a uOttawa undergraduate student who is currently studying or on a co-op term and who has paid the UOSU fee this semester
How can I check if I am a UOSU Member?
Check your uOttawa statement of account. If you see a UOSU fee, then you are a Member.
Can I campaign during the Voting Period?
Yes, you may campaign during the Voting Period.
If I am a candidate, can I endorse or work with other candidates?
No, you may not endorse or campaign with any other candidates.
Does my campaign material need to be approved by the Elections Office?
No, the Elections Office does not approve campaign material, but you may be penalized or disqualified if it violates the Elections Code.
Can my role as an Executive be counted as a co-op term?
It depends. Executives may use their role to fulfill the requirements of the co-op program with the approval of the uOttawa CO-OP Office.
If I am in a dual-faculty program, can I run in either faculty?
Usually not, as most students are only in one faculty at any given time. Please contact the Elections Office to confirm what faculty you are in.

The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) leads the Elections Office. They are hired by and report to the Elections Committee. The CEO is appointed for a one-year term from May 1 to April 30.
The CEO exercises general direction and supervision over the conduct of elections, referendums, and plebiscites. They are also responsible for ensuring that the Elections Office remains fair and impartial with regard to all the elections, referendums, and plebiscites that it administers.
Ben Cameron has been serving as Chief Electoral Officer since October 2024. He is currently studying Political Science and Public Administration at the University of Ottawa.
