Notice of By-election

September 1, 2026

In accordance with Section 5.2.1 of the UOSU Elections Code, the Elections Office is informing you that the Fall 2026 by-election will proceed according to the following timeline:

Nomination period: September 9, 2026 – September 28, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.

Campaign period: September 29, 2026 – October 13, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.

Voting period: October 13, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. – October 17, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.

The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) leads the Elections Office. They are hired by and report to the Elections Committee. The CEO is appointed for a one-year term from May 1 to April 30.

The CEO exercises general direction and supervision over the conduct of elections, referendums, and plebiscites. They are also responsible for ensuring that the Elections Office remains fair and impartial with regard to all the elections, referendums, and plebiscites that it administers.

Salem Habes has been serving as Chief Electoral Officer since April 2026 . He is currently a Juris Doctor candidate at the Faculty of Common Law at the University of Ottawa.
