Position: Lead Canvasser for the Student Housing Exploratory Caucus
Hours: 7 hours a week starting October 21st ending November 11th
Wage:
$25/hr.
Reporting to: The UOSU’s Chief of Staff

Preference will be given to candidates of equity-seeking groups and bilingual (French, English or a North American Indigenous language) applicants. Please note that the interview will be held in both English and French if you state that you are bilingual, while candidates who speak an Indigenous language will be asked to provide proof of language proficiency from a language teacher, community leader or Elder.

The University of Ottawa Students’ Union (UOSU) is the official student government of undergraduate students at the University of Ottawa, with a mandate to represent the interests of students and provide essential services on campus. Together, elected student leaders and dedicated administrative staff work to improve the academic and social lives of students at the University of Ottawa.

Job Description    

The UOSU is looking for a Lead Canvasser for its Student Housing Exploratory Caucus! The Lead Canvasser will lead group canvass’ and canvas individually in Sandy Hill, poster and engage in promotional work for the SHEC, and complete other tasks to engage students in the work of the SHEC and collect data.

Responsibilities

  • Organize regular group canvass of Sandy Hill semi-autonomously
  • Canvass Sandy Hill alone, engaging and speaking with students to collect data for the survey
  • Engage in promoting the work of SHEC, and promoting the survey, through postering, tabling, and other means
  • Memorize and recite sales scripts and statements prepared and provided by the employer
  • Go door-to-door to introduce the Unions housing survey to uOttawa students  
  • Demonstrate a vast knowledge of the survey and topic being canvassed to convince people to fill out the survey
  • Confidently answer questions and encourage students to fill out the survey
  • Recruit, train, onboard and mentor new Canvassers
  • Consistently meet daily and weekly quotas for student survey information
  • Maintain strict confidentiality; and
  • Contribute to the good reputation of the UOSU.

Qualifications

  • Bilingualism: Strong verbal skills in English and French;
  • Extensive canvassing experience
  • Ability to work independently;  
  • Ability to organize canvass and organize large group campaigns regularly;
  • Ability to convince people to fill out their personal information at the doors, and keep them in conversation;
  • Discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality of private or sensitive information;

Bilingualism in French and English is a requirement. Please note that the interview will be held in both French and English.
