Board Committees

Board Committees

Board Committees allow student representatives to focus on specific topics and priorities. The Board of Directors has 11 standing Committees, each with its own set of responsibilities and ability to make recommendations to the Board. The Board can also strike ad hoc (temporary) Committees.

Advocacy Committee

Reviews the work of the Advocacy Commissioner; administers the Campaigns Fund; debates and shapes policy relating to advocacy, such as mental health, academic rights, climate justice, and other university and government affairs.

Comité des Élections

Administers the elections and referenda of the UOSU; hires the Chief Electoral Officer; makes judgments on appeals of rulings of the Chief Electoral Officer

Equity Committee

Reviews the work of the Equity Commissioner; administers the Equity Fund; debates and shapes policy relating to advocacy for equity seeking groups, including but not limited to antiracism, gender-based and sexual violence prevention, and the rights of LGBTQ+ students, women, and students with disabilities.

Comité exécutif

Directs and manages the day-to-day operations of the UOSU; directs and manages the UOSU staff; human resources; representing the UOSU to the University of Ottawa, governments, and external organizations; other major issues of importance. Executive Oversight Committee

Receives and investigates complaints against Executives; reviews and proposes changes to Executive remuneration; exercises oversight on the work and performance of the Executives.

Finance Committee

Reviews the work of the Operations Commissioner; prepares and presents the annual budget; reviews all expenses on a monthly basis and looks for suspicious activity; reviews and recommends the annual audited financial statements; exercises oversight on the businesses of the UOSU.

Francophone Affairs Committee

Reviews the work of the Francophone Affairs Commissioner; reviews and proposes changes to the services and programs of the UOSU aimed at francophone students; ensures that the UOSU is upholding its commitment to bilingualism and La Francophonie.

Governance Committee

Reviews and proposes amendments to the Constitution and General Policies of the UOSU. The Constitution and some General Policies must be recommended by the Governance Committee before being discussed by the Board.

Clubs and Services Committee

Reviews the work of the Clubs and Services Commissioner; reviews the operations of and proposes changes to the services and programs of the UOSU; administers semesterly club funding; makes decisions on the suspension or revocation of club status.

Student Life Committee

Reviews the work of the Student Life Commissioner; reviews relations between the UOSU and the Recognized Student Governments; oversees the planning and execution of 101 Week, including event approvals for UOSU and the Recognized Student Governments; oversees the planning and execution of other social events.

Funds and Scholarships Committee

Creates, amends, and removes funds and scholarships within the parameters of the annual budget; promotes funds and scholarships; administers funds and scholarships. 

Ad-Hoc Communications and Engagement Committee

A temporary Committee created by the Board to improve the UOSU’s communications efforts and improve student engagement and awareness on key areas of concern
